Belem is the capital of the state and the most important attraction is nature itself. To understand the unique culture of the region, go to visit the museum Mercado Ver-o-Peso, a huge outdoor market with many stalls of fruit of Amazonian selava, crafts, ceramics, typical foods and medicinal herbs.
To reach the island Ilha de Marajó, there are boats that leave from Belém. By car you take the ferry 26 km from the capital, Icoaraci. The large island is part of the sea and partly on the river. Among the attractions, there are beaches with calm waters and dunes, typical food and farms.

Algodoal is perhaps the most remote coastal destination in Brazil and is accessible by boat from the village of Marudi, 171 km from Belém. The beaches can be visited on foot or with the coaches that are located in the village.
Santarém, a city bathed by the rivers Tapajós and Amazonas, gives access to the beaches of Alter do Chao river which is 38 km.

Suggested itineraries:

In 2 days to go until Bele m Mercado True-or-weight to see or maybe buy fish and seafood, desserts, fruits, spices and handicrafts. The day after visiting the Basilica de Nazaré churches and Catedral da Sé. The cultural center Casa das Onze Janelas Cairu and ice cream are not to be missed.

In 1 week extended visit to Belém. Add to the Route Estação from Docas and parks as the Jardim Botanico, the Emilio Goeldi, or Mangal das Garças.

In 2 weeks you go to see the buffaloes of the Ilha de Marajó. The Museu do Marajó in Cachoeira do Ariri brings together a large collection of ceramics marajoara, the people who occupied the area until the fourteenth century.

1 month in the sport lovers can make a jump up to Algodoal, a village with plenty of rustic tranquility and beautiful beaches. If you are in the state between August and October, a period without rain, you visitarele beaches of the Tapajós River and Alter do Chao.
